Gordon's Bay is a small harbour town that punches well above its weight for charm. Tucked into the eastern corner of False Bay, it sits where the Hottentots Holland mountains plunge dramatically into the ocean. The town's compact centre wraps around a working harbour, a yacht club, and the beloved Bikini Beach — one of the warmest swimming spots in the Cape.
The town is the starting point of Clarence Drive (R44), consistently ranked among the most scenic coastal roads in the world. The drive hugs the cliff face between Gordon's Bay and Rooi-Els, with whales breaching offshore in season and baboons occasionally crossing the road.
Despite its small size, Gordon's Bay has a growing restaurant and coffee scene, with waterfront eateries offering fresh seafood and sunset views over the harbour. The annual Harbour Festival and regular yacht club events give the town a festive, community-driven atmosphere.
For outdoor lovers, the Steenbras Dam hiking trail, harbour wall fishing, and rock pool exploring at Kogel Bay keep weekends full. Gordon's Bay is also a favourite with scuba divers, with several dive sites along the coast including the SAS Pietermaritzburg wreck.
