Did You Know?

💋
George was named after King George III in 1811 and was once the centre of the Cape Colony's timber industry, harvesting yellowwood from surrounding forests.
🚆
The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train once ran between George and Knysna. The line was damaged in 2006 floods and now only the museum and short trips remain.
Fancourt's Links course hosted the 2003 Presidents Cup and is the only Links-style course in SA not on the coast.
George is the Garden Route's largest town and transport hub. Nestled between the Outeniqua Mountains and the Indian Ocean, it serves as the perfect base for exploring the entire region. While not as flashy as Knysna or Plett, George offers world-class golf, excellent value accommodation, mountain passes, and a thriving local dining scene.
