Local Secrets

🌊
Tietiesbaai (3 km north) is a wild, empty beach with rock pools and no facilities. Drive the dirt road past the cemetery. Locals go here to escape the (small) summer crowds.
🐦
African black oystercatchers nest on the beaches Oct–Jan. Watch where you walk — nests are on open sand and well-camouflaged.
🚶
The coastal path south towards Saldanha is unmarked but walkable at low tide. 8 km of wild coastline with nobody around. Check tides before going.
Paternoster is about slowing down. The activities here are gentle: beach walks, rock pool exploring, kayaking, stargazing and nature reserve hikes. There are no theme parks or bungee jumps — and that's exactly the point. The pace is set by the tides and the fishing boats.
